Let’s get one thing clear before we dive in: at this point, we consider skinny jeans a classic. They’ve got a permanent place in our wardrobe, in a multitude of colours, and a variety of cuts. They’re a staple. We love them – don’t DM us. That said, there’s a style of jeans we are seeing everywhere at the moment, the shape is all over our insta feed and we’re here for it.

When we chatted with Canberra stylist and fashion blogger (and all-around cool chick) Kimberley Sara, founder of The Style Side, she agreed this new breed of denim was one worth investing in.

“Denim is universally loved, and with good reason – it’s the perfect core item to build any outfit around: durable, versatile, and effortlessly stylish,” Kimberley says. “Right now, high-waisted, straight leg jeans are my go-to style. Think a blend of vintage Levi’s with modern, distressed detailing. I love the effortless and relaxed fit contrasted with a fitted top and a sleek ankle boot.”

Another reason to think about investing in a high-waisted, straight-leg silhouette is a that it’s the ideal style to take you into spring. Pair it with a tucked-in t-shirt, soft knitted cardigan, or a structured blazer. Keep scrolling for a range of inspired outfit ideas, as well as shopping picks in a variety of cuts.
