The French-girl hair trend we can’t get enough of

Controversial opinion: right now is ideal time to try a fringe. Hear us out…

We’re all trapped in our living rooms, WFH for who knows how long and, if you’re anything like the team here at onthecover, we’re all looking to the small things to lift our spirits. Heading into your next Zoom or Houseparty call rocking a bold new fringe might just be the thing to give your mood a boost.

So while your hairdresser remains open (it might not be for long!) we’re giving bangs a go. And the style we’re going for is something that you’ve probably seen all over your social feed already…

It’s no secret that we’re just a little bit in love with everything French. The food, the wine, the effortlessly cool style… But it’s the undone-but-completely-together hair trend that French women are nailing that we’re really obsessed with at the moment. A style that’s just the right amount of messy, and just the right amount of done: it’s the oh-so French shaggy fringe that we just can’t get enough of.

And we’re not the only ones obsessing about this chic look. According to Pintrest, so far this year searches for the shaggy-chic curtain fringe are up 305%. And for those who prefer something more feathery look, pins for wispy bangs are up 107%. Whichever way you look at it, everyone’s after a bit of that elusive, Parisian je ne sais quoi.

For a bit of inspiration, and something to show your hairdresser, check out these 10 images, from Pintrest and Insta of French girls showing us just how cute a shaggy fringe can be.
