Flawless foundation and soaring summer temperatures are a disastrous pair. Sure, glowing, natural skin sounds great, but it’s a difficult look to pull off. The ideal is a stealth foundation, something that blurs imperfections while allowing your skin to shine through.

For advice on how to achieve a natural-but-also-blemish-free face, we asked one of Canberra’s top make-up artists Jacqui Scott, from Jacqui Scott Makeup + Studio. (Check out her instagram for inspo!).

Jacqui suggests a less-is-more approach to summer makeup, and starting with the right tools is crucial to success. “A silicone primer is great for normal to oily skin,” she says. “It smooths out the skin and reduces shine. It’s also water resistant, so helps lock in your make-up for all-day wear.”

More of Jacqui’s tips below, plus our picks of the best foundations, powders and primers to get you through this heatwave. No sweat.

DO WEAR SUNSCREEN
“Wear a face sunscreen every day under your foundation,” says Jacqui. “We should be doing this every day, but when we’re out in the sun more during summer, this is by far the most important thing to do.”

DON’T GO FULL COVERAGE
“Don’t wear a full-coverage foundation – summer is the time to pull out the tinted moisturiser or mineral powder. Keep it light, let your skin breathe!”

DO CHANGE IT UP
“Everyone woman should have two foundations: one for winter, when our skin is more pale, and a second for summer when our skin is darker or for when you have a spray tan,” says Jacqui. “Also, colour match to your chest to ensure your getting the right shade so your face matches your body.”

DON’T OVER POWDER
“We tend to get more oil coming through when the weather heats up, I opt for blotting paper here. It removes the shine without adding extra product to the skin like a powder does.”
