Warmer weather and shorter hemlines go hand in hand, but forget the mini skirt (especially in Canberra’s unpredictable spring weather!) – this season, it’s all about the midi.

The mid-length skirt is a key wardrobe staple as we transition into the real warm weather of the year. A mid-length, cinched waist, full-ish midi skirt is ideal for indecisive temperatures and long enough to hide our not-so-ready-for-summer legs after a long winter. Best of all, we’re seeing the midi being teamed with a variety of top halves, inspiring us to style the classic skirt in new ways.

Make a statement

As you won’t be showing a whole lot of leg, opting for a shoulder-bearing top during the warmer weather gets a big tick from us. For a chic, polished look, pair with a form-fitting top and statement accessories – or try layering a basic tee for an edgy, casual look.

Variations on a theme

Pencil, pleats, stripes, patterns, asymmetrical or wrap-style details – they’re all leading the way in the midi department. We particularly love the metallic look teamed with a rock-print tee and heels, or a vibrant colour pop that adds some fun into your wardrobe.

Heels or flats?

The good news in the footwear department is that this season, pretty much anything goes. We’re being challenged to experiment by pairing the midi with almost any option you’ve got in your wardrobe. Neat white sneakers, block-heel mules, simple sandals, sky-high heels or leather slides – it all goes.

Sure, the midi isn’t exactly new on the scene, but this season there are plenty of fresh styles to chose from to take you from the office to dinner dates and coffee catch-ups on the weekend. Showcasing its versatility, it’s safe to say that a spring midi will be an investment worth every dollar.
