Held on Sunday January 17 in Santa Monica, California, and recognising the best film and television, the Critic’s Choice Awards are yet another red-carpet event in the line of award ceremonies leading up to the Oscars (which is on Sunday Feb 28). Usually, unlike the Oscars, style risks are a plenty on the red carpet. But this year it was all about muted tones and safe choices. Some serious fashion highs (Rachel McAdams, Saoirse Ronan) and some lows too (we’re looking at you, Jen).

Taking out first place in our books was Rachel McAdams in an embroidered Elie Saab gown. She accepted the award for Best Ensemble Cast for Spotlight, and was also nominated for the (completely addictive and intriguing and also kinda frustrating but also amazing) series True Detective.

The disturbingly stunning Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, in Saint Laurent by Hedi Slimane, couldn’t wipe the smile off her face (a new engagement ring will do that…). Leslie Mann in Monique Lhuillier put in her efforts to bring tulle back. We’re so in.

Amy Schumer can do no wrong in our book – and her chic Calvin Klein Collection gown was only adding to her appeal. She took home the MVP award, as well as the Best Actress in a Comedy for Trainwreck.

One-to-watch Saoirse Ronan, who was nominated for her role in Brooklyn, was flawless in pale blue (that chevron shoulder detail!).

An uncharacteristically dull Jennifer Aniston, in Saint Laurent by Hedi Slimane, made a surprisingly safe fashion choice (although that crotch-high split thought otherwise…). While The Leftovers actress Regina King was ready to party in a two-piece cocktail number.

Hayden Panettiere was all smiles – The Nashville actress was nominated for Best Supporting Actress but lost out to Constance Zimmer for UnREAL.
