Looking for a long-term commitment from your lip colour? So are we. We’ve tried a few (hundred?) over the years and the whole “long-lasting” thing isn’t always as long as we’d like. But you can count on these ones. We’ve tried them and loved them – and so will you. Whether your ideal match is colour-rich, modern matte, super supple or a combination of all – one of these will do the trick.

L’Oréal Infallible 2-Step Longwear Lipstick, $29.95

This one is breaking the mould on the two-step approach – it’s incredible how well this little beauty works. First, apply the lipstick base, then the lip colour, then do pretty much whatever you want and your lips will stay put. The colour is rich, bright and pigmented – and you’ll a dab of makeup remover to get it off.

Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain, $14.99

This crayon-like lip balm has a cool “fade-out” technique. The colour lasts, but by the end of the day it’s more a flush of colour than a bold lip statement, so go for more subtle pink tones. It’s also a delight to put on – the texture is as smooth as silk, mostly due to the triple butter combo: shea, mango and coconut. Yum.

ModelCo Party Proof Lipstick Ultra Long-Lasting Matte Finish, $18

They’re not joking with the title of this one: party proof it is! It delivers high-impact, bold colour that doesn’t budge. You’ll need make-up remover to take it off at the end of the night. Plus the trademark ModelCo touch is an added bonus: everyone loves an inbuilt mirror.

Max Factor Colour Elixir Lipstick, $20.95

A more classic-style lipstick this one leaves lips feeling soft and supple. The colour is intense and the forumula is definitely long-lasting – again, with the statement shades you’ll need a touch-up but the delicious formula is an easy trade-off.

Napoleon Perdis Mattetastic Lipstick, $38

For a modern matte finish, you can’t go past these little bullets. Small enough to take anywhere, they leave lips feeling hydrated and soft all day. You’ll need a touch-up of the darker shades during the day, but the soothing, balm-like feeling of this lipstick will have you wanting to do it more than once.

Yves Saint Laurent Rogue Pur Couture Glossy Stain, $55

The genius in this beautifully packaged stain is the intense pigmentation. The colour is bold. Really bold. Two initial coats is all you’ll need for a rich, velvety finish that will last all day (plus it contains SPF 15 as an added bonus.) We love this in a scarlet red or deep plum.
